Scotchies Scorch St Bernards at the Pit

An outstanding come from behind win by the firsts at St Bernards on Saturday was the catalyst for the success of the Old Scotch Football Club’s 2005 Dinner Dance Auction Night at Leonda. And what a night it was with frenetic bidding, dazzling dancing, determined drinking and much mateship. Many thanks must go to Marie Holt, Pam Tummell, Sandra Dick, Sally Slattery, Chris Harvey and Mandy Snaddon who organized a fantastic night which means the club will be able to trade in 2006! Dean and Carruthers again performed brilliantly and thanks go to Linda and Neville Kitchen for arranging them to be in attendance. But back to St Bernards…. The magnificent new pavilion was opened prior to the game and the St Bernards boys were in party mode as they started by kicking 5 goals to 2 into the strong breeze. They then kicked on to lead by 27 points at half time, slotting goals from everywhere with the big wind at their backs. The boys pegged the lead back to a 6 point defecit at three quarter time but with the breeze still a major factor it was going to require much hard work and a strong committed effort to work into it…….and that’s what our loyal supporters got as the boys kicked 5 goals to 2 into the breeze, dampening the St Bernards party and keeping our finals chances alive. The curtain raiser saw the twos hold off a determined and undermanned St Bernards side to win by 31 points. Both sides now look forward to playing ladder leaders Old Xavier at K2 Stadium this week. This is a must attend clash for all supporters. Come along and support the boys at Camberwell. The prematch luncheon, with Simon Illingworth guest speaking, is a sell out. The threes had a 10 goal win against traditional rivals and responded to their critics in the best way possible! Well done to Millsy and the boys for responding so well. A win against Mt Lilydale this weekend and a finals place is theirs….. The Under 19’s paid for their inaccuracy against ladder leaders Marcellin but played with great determination and commitment to go down by a goal. The boys are away this week to Collegains. Leithy’s boys got touched up by Therry Penola and play Rupertswood at home this weekend. The Cardinals kept Old Carey goalless and won by 116 points to wrap up a finals position. The Cardinals have a bye in the last round which will mean that they will be ‘Cherry Ripe’ for the finals that await them! GO CARDINALS!! |
