100 Up for Dirty, Finals Footy
In previewing Round 1 this year, A Grade scribe Jonathan Horn predicted a last place finish for the Cardinals by a clear margin, describing us as lacking in character and ability. With a top 4 finish confirmed yesterday, the results confirm a club on the rise and seeking to get better. The day started with a sensational pre-match luncheon where senior coach Peter Banfield shared a bit of vision for the future of our club, along with an invitation to the crowd from Football Director Bruce Armstrong to get involved in a well run and improving footy club. It then moved on to celebrating 100 great games for club favourite Adam "Dirty" Routledge. It ended with four points, and a great after match function held by the players. The day got even better with the 19's securing a finals berth as well after their win over Old Xavs at Toorak Park. Congratulations to coach Paul Dodd and his team. A big week this week, with both the 19's and 1's playing on the Sunday. The 19's kick it off at Central Reserve in the early game, and the seniors are at Sportscover Arena. A great chance for the future of our club to get some more experience inthe big show. Watch out for the E News this week for all match reports. Get behind the Cardinals.

Congratulations to Men's Four

The rookie quartet of Matt Ryan, James Marburg, Cameron McKenzie-McHarg and Francis Hegerty have exceeded all expectations to claim a silver medal behind Great Britain in the final of the Men's Four Rowing in Beijing.

It took a desperate drive from the British crew to drag down the Australians with just 200 metres to go.  The Australians were still overjoyed as they knocked back beers in plastic cups following the medal ceremony.

McKenzie-McHarg revealed the crew had decided "not to waste a stroke" as they took the long way to Beijing only qualifying in the last-chance regatta in Poland in June.  The Australians had prepared for the final using articles from the British press to drive them towards what would have been an upset win.

Cameron McKenzie-McHarg who was drafted by the Western Bulldogs after leaving school but soon returned to the water only to narrowly miss selection for the 2004 Athens Olympics.  A break from rowing saw McKenzie-McHarg return to football with the Old Scotch Football Club through to the end of 2006.  A determination to make the Olympics saw him return to rowing in 2007 in a bid for Beijing. The club extends its congratulations to Cameron and the entire crew on a fantastic result for Australia.
